Bruce explained to me that since WWE owned the characters of both Razor Ramon and Diesel, anybody could step into those boots and play those roles. And not only anybody could, but soon somebody would. Not being in a position to say much at that point, I simply said nothing. The idea was perhaps the worst I had ever heard to this day. What Bruce and Vince were forgetting was that SCOTT HALL and KEVIN NASH were the “actors” behind those characters. Both men gave those chanters a uniqueness that nobody else could bring to the table. The fact is, they were indeed the characters and without them, you had two hacks pretending to be them.
I clearly remember that I did not attend that particular RAW when the two imposters made their appearance. I wanted to be as far away from the crime as possible. Look, I may have done many things throughout my career that some of you didn’t and still don’t agree with, but this – there was just no defending it. It was a desperate act at a very desperate time.
Regardless of the insanity of it all, Bruce and Vince pulled the trigger, and it was absolutely horrendous – horrendous. The fans lashed back with a deafening voice, forcing Vince to scrap the ridiculous idea. And he did, but only after he put all the heat on JR through one of the most far-fetched stories ever presented in a wrestling ring.
I don’t know what was worse – Bruce and Vince coming up with the idea of “Fake Razor” and “Fake Diesel” and attempting to execute it, or ending the story on TV as it was all poor ol’ JR’s idea. Either way, the entire idea was a catastrophe, and one that will still be remembered and talked about for many years to come.
