Wrestlezone Top 10: Rey Mysterio’s Greatest Matches

#10 – Fatal 4-Way

WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs
December 19, 2010

brothers of destructionThis 4-way ladder match came during a really good period of WWE Smackdown, and was basically two different feuds – Mysterio/Alberto and Edge/Kane – combined into one for the World Heavyweight Championship. Alberto del Rio had debuted just a few months earlier as a cocky, aristocratic heel that targeting Mysterio, a former world champion, as his first major victim. Meanwhile, Kane and Edge battled over the title that the Devil’s Favorite Demon won over the summer, cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on – you guessed it – Rey Mysterio. All four men really had a chance to shine in this match, with Mysterio using chairs, tables and even the stage set-up to have some high-flying and extreme fun.

#9 – Rey Mysterio vs. John Morrison

WWE Smackdown
September 4, 2009

In 2009, John Morrison was drafted to the Smackdown brand, spitting up his tag team with The Miz, and kick-starting his singles career once again. He started to gain a lot of recognition with a fantastic match against Edge, and his first world title opportunity against Jeff Hardy. Next he turned his sights on Rey Mysterio and the Intercontinental Championship, wrestling this phenomenal TV match – the only one of its kind on this list.

#8 – Rey Mysterio vs. Dean Malenko

WCW Halloween Havoc
October 27, 1996

dean malenkoThe rivalry between Rey Mysterio and Dean Malenko is a great one. Rey actually had his WCW debut against “The Man of 1,000 Holds” in June of 1996. He would defeat Malenko a month later to win the Cruiserweight Championship, defending successfully against him once, leading to this grudge match between the two on PPV. He had many opponents in 1996, including Psychosis and Ultimo Dragon – two greats also featured on this list – but it was really Dean Malenko who put Rey Mysterio on the map in his first few months with the company.
