Stars in Progress: Lesnar/Cena Make Better Lovers Than Fighters, Bo Dallas is My Champion; The Claire Lynch Rant You’ve Been Waiting For

STEP UP: Dean Ambrose / Seth Rollins

Their rivalry is such a classic. Two former friends who made it big as part of a group, that split apart to become even bigger on their own. It’s a tale as old as time itself. WWE has gold with these two, and I honestly believe if it’s written correctly, and has enough twists and turns, their feud could go all the way to WrestleMania. It won’t, and people don’t have the attention span to last eight months, but in the old days they’d book these guys off-and-on for a year to get as much money as possible out of the hot program.

wwe live event resultsThe Hogan-themed birthday present attack was a thing of beauty. It was cheesy and obvious, but I loved it all the same. Out of all the SummerSlam matches, this is really the only men’s story that has gotten extremely physical. These two want to destroy each other! Which… is why I’m really skeptical about this Lumberjack Match on Sunday. What writer thought that was a good idea? Probably the Claire Lynch dude.

When it was first announced, I thought it was a filler match type so Dean could say “got ya!” at the last minute, and pull a steel cage or ladder match out of nowhere to change up the game. Now it seems like they’re sticking with it. I wouldn’t be totally shocked to see that still happen on Sunday, and honestly it’s the right decision to make. Rollins prepares for one match, and gets another. Dean Ambrose has been a step behind because of the Authority for months; now the ball is in his court, and he’s tricked them all. The Lumberjack gimmick isn’t totally without cause – it makes sense as a means for Rollins to be confined to one area, but so does any variation of a cage match. When I think of WWE’s deadliest and most personal match types, the Lumberjack is hardly what comes to mind first…
