Number 1: Bret Hart
In the early 90’s, The WWE was going through a transition. They had big name talent like Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, and Ultimate Warrior. What they had even better was a solid mid card talent pool to choose from, and Bret Hart was that guy they wanted to groom to be the next best thing. Hart would win the Intercontinental Championship on a handful of occasions, including a great match against Mr. Perfect at Summerslam in 1991. Furthermore, he would feud with The Mountie and really solidify himself as one of the best. What I loved most about him being Intercontinental Champion was that this title ended one of the biggest nights in the history of the WWE. Wembley Stadium held over 80,000 fans in anticipation of Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog. This was a spectacle, set the stage for other events, and made us believe that Intercontinental Championship was more than just a secondary title. He brought prestige and importance to a basically irrelavant championship. This is why Bret Hart is number 1.
