The Cashbox: CM Punk Might Not “Need” Paul Heyman, But…

Paul HeymanLet's state the obvious right away: CM Punk doesn't "need" Paul Heyman. BUT…that doesn't mean he won't be better off with him.

I've seen so many fans come to the unnecessary defense of Punk as a result of this pairing. Why? You are aware that it was likely HIS decision to go in this direction?

If it weren't for CM Punk, we wouldn't be getting the regular dose of Paul Heyman we're about to receive in the first place.

Paul Heyman had no intention of doing anything WWE-related outside of Lesnar. He doesn't need the money. He doesn't care about the fame. He's doing it for Punk.

Punk is a "Paul Heyman guy", after all.

This is a no-pressure situation for Heyman, too. He's not strapped with the task of writing Raw or Smackdown, all the while butting heads with Vince McMahon and trying to calculate just how far he can go to get his points across without getting fired.

All Heyman has to do right now is entertain. That comes way too easy for him. And with CM Punk, the WWE Champion, the possibilities are endless.

Adding some needed fire to the main event program should be first on his to-do list. Because CM Punk vs John Cena should feel like a bigger deal than it has thus far. Much bigger.

I'm not blaming CM Punk. I'm not blaming John Cena either. I single-handedly blame Vince McMahon and his nonchalant attitude toward the booking of his number one and number two superstars. But I digress.

If you're a fan of CM Punk, you should welcome Paul Heyman with open arms. All the stars are realigning for Punk to once again be the center of attention, as he should be.

Could a faction be in store? Possibly, but last I heard, Vince didn't want factions or stables in wrestling anymore. Maybe that's changed, maybe it hasn't.

Until we know the answer to that, the story is simply CM Punk vs John Cena. It should be a must-read "Best Seller" by now, but it isn't. The next chapter needs a lift.

Enter Paul Heyman.

The closing seconds to Monday's edition of Raw was a good start. CM Punk beating John Cena at Night of Champions in his hometown of Boston is the next step. I'm not sure I would have thought that was even possible before Raw went off the air Monday night. Now, I'm willing to bet on it.

Look at that — I guess Punk needed Heyman after all…

And, on a side note: I will be celebrating the Cowboys win over the Giants all night tonight on Twitter. Join me! And IF, by some helping hand or miracle from GOD himself, the Giants somehow pull off a victory, I will likely not be seen or heard from again until next Monday night. Paul Heyman and CM Punk might be the only thing that can save me from the inevitable depression I will suffer as a result of that outcome.
