Ryback Bill Goldberg

What’s NOT Bothering Me: Ryberg, BFG Series, Johnny Ace

Let’s take a look at some positive goings-on in pro wrestling this week. Remember, you can contribute to this column — when I remember to let you — by following me on Twitter @RealityofChris.

Who cares if the crowd chants “Goldberg!” during Ryback’s entrances and matches? At least they’re chanting something.

Ryback isn’t the first superstar (and won’t be the last) WWE has tried to get over with squash matches and an overhyped win streak. However, his size and intensity is giving him a better shot at succeeding with it than most.

I’m enjoying his short appearances, still.

I look at the Goldberg comparisons as a positive that he’s doing something right. Ryback should take them as a compliment. If fans are reminded of Goldberg when they see him, they must feel he’s the closest thing to Goldberg since Goldberg.

There are worse people to be compared to in pro wrestling.

Clearly, Ryback needs to get his own name and character over, but until that day comes, let him live vicariously through Goldberg. If it allows him half the success Goldberg achieved during his prime, we’ll have a superstar on our hands. And regardless of what you thought about Goldberg personally, you can’t deny his superstardom.

It’s like the hot girl in the bar going home with you because you remind her of Matthew McConaughey. It might not be ideal — you’d much rather her like you for you — but at least you’re getting laid.
