These were just the first few rounds but I hope the point gets across that talent was being equally divided.
However, quickly as time went on, some got hurt, Some left for TNA, vacation, or making a sex tape with Chyna. Some got traded to RAW, and all in all in a matter of time it was becoming obvious that RAW was the live show and still the face of the organization, and Smackdown was the other show that we can toss 30 Superstars on because we monopolize the industry and need to put them somewhere….and oh yeah we can sell advertising too!!
The trend of political play to be on one show or the other, usually RAW, along with injury or cross brand rivalries has continued through the years even after some drafts they try and load Smackdown up with big names.
Those trends along with the fact the show is taped and is on a Friday night when a lot of the demographic is out and not sitting in front of their televisions, has been a reason in my mind why the show has not acquired more classic moments on its highlight reel, bigger ratings, or ever teased at being the more vital show to watch in WWE programming.
Now its unfair for me to say that RAW had a much more accomplished first 10 years because of the popularity rise the product had in the 90’s.
However, with that being said it makes me wonder what could have been if things played out differently in the roster choices, and production choices of Smackdown. It also makes me wonder what will happen in the next 10 years.
