Best WWE SmackDown Matches Of 2007

2007 is considered one of the greatest years for WWE SmackDown. The blue brand had the likes of Batista and The Undertaker at their peak. The mid-card featured Rey Mysterio, MVP, Matt Hardy, and Chris Benoit.

The Rabid Wolverine had several great matches on WWE SmackDown in 2007. Unfortunately, tragedy struck just before his planned ECW Championship match against CM Punk at Vengeance: Night of Champions.

Despite the horrific things he did, Chris Benoit will be a recurring name in this list piece because of his involvement in some of the best WWE SmackDown matches of 2007.

That being said, let’s dive right into it:

Chris Benoit vs. MVP (WWE SmackDown – April 13)

Chris Benoit and MVP had a solid feud over the United States Championship in 2007. The duo met multiple times at pay-per-view events and weekly television. This match, in particular, was solid from in-ring storytelling.

Both men showcased technical skills in this non-title match-up. The finish whereby MVP defeated Benoit was done in order to extend the feud to Backlash 2007. At the PPV, Benoit retained his title against MVP.

The pair faced each other in a No Holds Barred Match just a year later. Khali dominated Taker in the early goings of the match with his strength and size. A chokeslam followed by Hell’s Gate submission sealed the win for the Deadman.

Batista vs. The Undertaker (World Heavyweight Title Steel Cage Match – May 11)

Batista versus The Undertaker was the top rivalry on WWE SmackDown in 2007. The Deadman defeated the Animal to win the World Heavyweight Championship in an incredible match at WrestleMania 23.

They ran it back inside a steel cage on the May 11, 2007, episode of WWE SmackDown. Both men displayed extreme tenacity in this match-up. Taker found himself busted wide open due to Batista’s offense.

The finish was quite creative as both men jumped out of the cage at the same time, but the replay showed that Taker’s feet hit the floor first. The post-match assault from Mark Henry and Edge’s Money in the Bank cash-in was incredible as well.
