Edge’s 5 Best WWE Matches

Edge spent the majority of his career in WWE, taking part in career-defining matches and producing many memorable moments. The Rated R Superstar had compelling rivalries with the likes of The Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, and Kurt Angle, to name a few.

A fan of wrestling from early life, the real-life Adam Copeland studied established veterans, including Bret Hart and “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, before stepping foot into the larger-than-life of pro wrestling.

After spending an early career in local promotion and having a brief stint in WCW as Damon Striker, Edge ventured into Stamford during the white-hot Attitude Era. The rest was history. Now that we’ve had a recap of his career, let’s take a look at Edge’s five best WWE matches.

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero (WWE SmackDown – September 26, 2002)

The first-ever WWE Draft coincided with the arrival of the Ruthless Aggression Era. The brand split saw a major shuffle between the superstars of the red and blue brand. Edge was drafted to SmackDown, joining the likes of Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar, and The Undertaker, among others.

The Master of the Edgecution soon found himself in a brutal feud with Latino Heat. The pair collided on numerous televised events. Their best match together, however, came at the September 24, 2002, SmackDown taping (airdate Sept. 26th) in a No Disqualification Match.

This was an extremely brutal match, with both Edge and Guerrero pulling off plenty of creative moves to outdo each other. The bout ended after Edge planted Guerrero with an Edgecution from the top of the ladder.

Edge vs. The Undertaker (SummerSlam 2008)

The Undertaker is widely considered one of the true pillars of WWE. The Deadman made his career taking souls and digging holes. His rivalry with Edge is considered one of the high points in both men’s careers.

Edge and Taker had a lengthy over the World Heavyweight Championship between 2007 and 2008. The pair had some excellent matches, including the main event of WrestleMania XXIV, but it was their Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam 2008 that triumphed them all – in terms of match quality, at least.

The Master Manipulator and the Phenom met in the devil’s playground itself. The match featured tons of great spots, including a spear through the cell wall. In the end, Taker sealed Edge’s fate with a massive chokeslam from the top of the ladder all through the canvas.

Edge vs. John Cena (Unforgiven 2006)

Edge was the first person to win the inaugural Money in the Bank in 2005. He also became the first person to successfully cash-in his contract for the WWE Championship, costing John Cena his title after a brutal Elimination Chamber Match at New Year’s Revolution 2006.

This kicked off a heated feud between the two superstars. Cena regained the championship at the 2006 Royal Rumble. After a series of back-and-forth matches, the Ultimate Opportunist proposed a ladder match to get rid of his opponent for good.

The pair met in the main event of Unforgiven 2006 in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match for the title. Edge had a lot of experience with said match. The Rated R Superstar demonstrated his experience as the red-hot Toronto crowd cheered on their hometown hero.

The match featured some amazing spots, including a magnificent powerslam on the table, mid-air spear, but the highlight came in the form of a massive Attitude Adjustment from the top of the ladder all the way through two tables.

Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle (No Mercy 2002)

SmackDown under Paul Heyman produced some of the most compelling matches of 2000s. The incumbent Wise Man pitted four of his SmackDown 6 against each other to determine the inaugural WWE Tag Team Champions at No Mercy 2002.

The match featured the technical prowess of Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit as well as the high-flying and strategic offense of Edge and Rey Mysterio. It was action from the get-go as both teams pulled off everything in their arsenal to get the win.

All four men told an incredible story inside the ring, with Angle and Benoit in particular working together despite their animosity. The tag team outing is widely considered one of the best matches in No Mercy history.

Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match (WrestleMania X-Seven)

The Attitude Era was stacked with incredible tag teams, but it was the trio of Edge & Christian, Dudley Boyz, and the Hardy Boyz that stood out because of their iconic matches. The three teams were part of the earliest tag team ladder matches in the history of WWE, with the Hardys and E&C involved in the first-ever tag team ladder match at No Mercy 1999.

The TLC match at WrestleMania 17, however, took the action up a notch. The 16-minute match saw the three teams pelt extreme punishment on each other to unhook the tag team straps suspended above the ladder. The match had high-risk moves, drama, emotions and everything else that could possibly create a five-star classic.

Every single performer in the match got the opportunity to shine and shine they did in front of a white-hot Texas crowd. The TLC match stole the show, which was a huge accomplishment in itself given it was part of arguably the greatest WrestleMania card in history.
