5 Potential Opponents for Dolph Ziggler In AEW

There’s engrossing debate on wrestling Twitter in regards to Dolph Ziggler‘s future in pro wrestling. The Show Off was surprisingly released from his WWE contract in the latest round of budget cuts. His departure led to an outpouring of support from fans and wrestlers alike.

There’s no denying that Ziggler had an illustrious WWE career; one that saw him capture multiple titles and feud with some of the biggest stars such as John Cena and The Miz. Any company that manages to get him on board will be lucky to him have.

At the time of the writing, many fans want Dolph Ziggler to join AEW. This comes as no surprise given AEW’s solid financial standing and repute as the second biggest pro wrestling promotion in North America. Moreover, the company’s booking of some top ex-WWE talents, such as Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley, has many fans convinced Dolph Ziggler will get, more or less, the same treatment should he sign up with AEW.

Now that we are done with why the ‘AEW can and should sign Dolph Ziggler’ debate, let’s take a look at five potential opponents for the former World Heavyweight Champion.

Kota Ibushi

Dolph Ziggler showed in WWE he could make a feud work with little build. The Show Off has all the tools to make a program work with almost every superstar that gets in his way. A potential program with Kota Ibushi could be an interesting way to welcome Dolph Ziggler into AEW.

Ziggler could be introduced as the fourth man to The Don Callis Family. The Invisible Hand seemed to have created an unbeatable trio in Konosuke Takeshita, Will Ospreay, and Sammy Guevara (who joined the Callis’ stronghold last week) against Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega, and Chris Jericho.

Dolph Ziggler could form this unholy alliance with Callis and emerge as the leader of the new faction. He could enter into a feud with the Golden Star, leading to a series of classic matches between them. Ibushi isn’t exclusive to AEW now, but the Forbidden Door has proven that any match is possible under the AEW banner.

Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega is one of the best storytellers in the squared circle. The Cleaner has produced countless five-star classics against a plethora of opponents. He’s also been involved in some of the best feuds in AEW’s young history.

Omega needs to be one of Dolph Ziggler’s first feuds if the former WWE star signs up with the Jacksonville-based promotion. Even a stare-down between the two incredible performers would get a considerable reaction from the AEW faithful.

Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy has managed to silence doubters with his incredible work rate. His AEW International Championship run was probably the most fun title reign in the five-year history of the promotion. Cassidy put on incredible matches, with his last title defense against Jon Moxley turning out to be his absolute best.

AEW could bring Dolph Ziggler and put him in a feud with Orange Cassidy to flesh out his gimmick, which is still tied to the AEW International Championship even though he dropped it to Moxley at All Out. A feud between Ziggler and Cassidy would be a nice way to set the latter on his path to redemption.

Adam Cole

It is a shame that fans never got to see a singles match between Dolph Ziggler and Adam Cole inside a WWE ring. It would’ve been great to see the two workhorses try different types of moves on each other to get the win.

The feud has a better chance of happening in AEW. Cole is currently involved in a storyline with MJF. Even Roderick Strong isn’t happy about Cole and MJF’s bromance. It seems Ziggler will have to insert himself in the storyline between Cole and Strong, ultimately paving the way for a program with MJF.

MJF vs. Dolph Ziggler would be big money feud

MJF currently holds the richest prize in AEW. That makes him a target for nearly every other performer in both AEW and ROH. Max knows he’s a huge chip on his shoulder, but isn’t afraid to call out wrestlers from other promotions in his promos. This cocky attitude makes him similar to a young Dolph Ziggler.

A feud between Dolph Ziggler and MJF could be one of the most exciting storylines in AEW.

This is only possible if the Show Off decides to join AEW after his non-compete clause ends in December. However, the possibility of it happening is very exciting.
