In 2007, Shawn Michaels was the man to challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 23 in the main event. However, right around the time the rivalry would begin, they would have an impromptu pairing to take on then-reigning tag team champions Rated-RKO.
They would win the championships from them one night after the Royal Rumble and hold it all the way up until the night after WrestleMania 23. Shawn Michaels would turn on Cena in a 10-team Battle Royal and cost them the titles.
