WrestleZone recently spoke with Joe Hendry, who has recently aligned with Ace Steel on TNA programming. Steel told WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard that he wanted to help Hendry find the “killer instinct” that many of his World Champion mentors possessed. Hendry said he agreed with Steel’s assessment and picked his arrival in NXT and a recent match with Jake Something in TNA as evidence of that.
Joe Hendry on Ace Steel
“You summarized it perfectly with the killer instinct. One thing that Ace spoke to me about — I didn’t even realize it — after my debut, he said I cut my promo in a different style,” Hendry began.
“Usually, I am very sort of like this. [Mimics his normal delivery] But when I was in NXT there was an urgency to what I was saying,” he continued. “And actually that is what me and Ace Steel have been working on in the ring. It’s interesting how, just by doing that, it subconsciously bled over how I’ve been cutting my promos as well.”
Hendry cited himself as a student of the game. He noted that his time with Steel (and WWE’s Natalya) has made an impact on his recent work.
“I’m just trying to become the best wrestler I can be. If you want to look at what Ace Steel has taught me, all you have to do is look at my match with Jake Something from couple of weeks ago,” Hendry said. “Compare that to a match that I would have had last year. I think then you can see the impact that Ace Steel has had on my career for sure.”
Hendry agreed that the Jake Something match and his NXT tag team match with Trick Williams against Ethan Page and Shawn Spears best represent who he is as a wrestler.
