Gunther Picks Clash With Sheamus, NXT UK Matches As A ‘Good Introduction’ To Him

The Watch List looks at what matches you should be watching and they come recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.

WrestleZone recently spoke with Gunther, who highlighted some of his work on the various brands under the WWE umbrella. The Ring General first highlighted his work as WALTER, then noted his recent battle with Sheamus as a standout match in his career.

“I think there are a few. I think my matches with Ilja [Dragunov] are a good example of that, or my match with Tyler Bate from NXT UK,” he explained. “They are very good examples.

“That was still WALTER. That’s the other thing,” he pointed out. “As Gunther, I think there are a bunch of matches too that stand out. I think I gotta go with Sheamus from Clash at the Castle. I think those are good introductions if you want to get to know me as a wrestler.”

WrestleZone spoke with Gunther about his presentation in WWE. The longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time was asked if there was a distinct difference between Walter and his current persona, or if it was only in name.

“I think Gunther is just an updated version of what it was before, a more mature version. I think that’s basically it,” he noted. “When it comes to in the ring, I’m still doing the same things. I still have the same style of match and same wrestling style. So, yeah, in that regard, nothing much has changed.”
