As we have been reporting recently, WWE Champion AJ Styles may have suffered some type of injury this past weekend at a live event held at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Styles was attacked by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens with a steel chair prior to a match where he was set to tag with Shinsuke Nakamura.
Styles was assisted backstage and did appear later to help Nakamura pick up the win.
Styles did not appear as advertised at a WWE live event in Odessa this past weekend following MSG, and the apparent injury was announced to the crowd at that show to explain his absence.
There has been speculation as to whether or not this was simply a part of story line leading into Styles defending his championship against Nakamura at Wrestlemania on April 8th, or a legitimate injury.
PWInsider can confirm Styles is dealing with an injury, although there is no details on the severity of the injury.
The website also reports that Styles is backstage at Raw in Dallas today to be looked over by WWE medical officials. It’s also worth noting that Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer is also reporting same information.
