WWE.com posted the following preview for AJ Styles versus Kevin Owens versus Sami Zayn at the WWE Fastlane pay-per-view after it was announced last night on Smackdown:
The “Yep!” Movement is getting another opportunity at the WWE Championship, though not in the way you might be expecting.
Amid rising tensions between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, coupled with continued animosity between both Superstars and WWE Champion AJ Styles, SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan ruled that The Phenomenal One will defend his title against both Owens and Zayn — this time, in a Triple Threat Match at WWE Fastlane.
If that sounds like déjà-vu, you’re not far off the mark. The “Yep!” Movement challenged Styles in a Handicap Match at Royal Rumble and had a chance to become co-WWE Champions, but they were defeated due in part to a controversial non-call: A crucial tag attempt from Zayn to Owens fell just short, but the official ruled that the tag had occurred. Moments later, Styles scored the pinfall on KO, who technically should not have been the legal man.
Owens and Zayn immediately began to fray at the seams two days after, which led to Bryan placing them in a match against each other to determine who would challenge for the title next. (#FightForever) That match was gate-crashed by Styles himself, setting the stage for Bryan to schedule a WWE Championship Triple Threat Match for WWE Fastlane.
That could present an even bigger challenge for Styles, who at least had the luxury of fighting his opponents one at a time in the Handicap Match. However, at the end of the day, the only person Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn like to fight more than common enemies is each other.
