Shane McMahon just announced Chad Gable will be unable to compete due to an injury sustained tonight on WWE Smackdown Live at the hands of The Usos.
Shane said Gable’s sprained MCL would keep him sidelined for 2-4 weeks, and the WWE Backlash Tag Team Tournament Finals originally scheduled as American Alpha versus Heath Slater and Rhyno will not take place.
Shane said they would act quickly and find a new solution, and Daniel Bryan said they don’t want to just award the titles and should have a match. He suggests the last two teams eliminated compete in a ‘second chance’ match, and they would compete at Backlash, then face Slater and Rhyno later that night to crown the first champions.
Shane says he likes the idea and confirms the match, with The Usos facing The Hype Bros at WWE Backlash, with the winners facing Heath Slater and Rhyno in the final match to crown Smackdown’s first tag team champions.
