WWE Network
Jimmy Korderas, former WWE referee of 20 years, wrote a new blog on CSRWrestling.com suggesting show concepts for WWE Network. Here’s a sample:
When I think about Network shows, I’m not necessarily thinking more wrestling. There is more than enough wrestling on the Network when you include all the in demand content. Fans who crave that form of entertainment can easily access it. What I am talking about is more peeks behind the curtain and more insight into the superstars, divas and crew of the WWE that the audience rarely gets to see.
One such show could be titled “A Day in the Life”. One or more of the episodes could focus on the referees of the WWE and NXT. Many of these young men have great stories to tell. How many fans know that Charles Robinson is a huge horror movie buff and that he served in the Navy? Who knows about the son of Bullet Bob, Scott Armstrong and his wrestling career prior to becoming a top WWE official or John Cone training with the legendary Harley Race? Did you know that Mike Chioda is currently the longest tenured referee and has really great stories to tell? “A Day in the Life” can look at the young crop of striped shirts that are in NXT or have graduated to the main roster. Drake Wuertz has an amazing back story that deserves to be told. Others down in developmental have had journeys that are great. I may be a little biased but the referees deserve some recognition and a Network show devoted to them would be a perfect place for fans to get to know them a little better.
Growing up as a huge wrestling fan, I always wondered what it was like to be a famous wrestler. Even today fans are curious to know what it is like to be a WWE superstar. All they see is the glitz and glamour. The Breaking Ground show which is currently airing on the WWE Network is a good template for a similar show involving main roster talent. It can be a series that illustrates their growth and their struggles to remain in the WWE. Added to those struggles is a look into the everyday lives of the superstars. What do they do when they go home? What hobbies and interests do they have outside of wrestling? The challenges of juggling a family with a career that takes them on the road for 250 days a year. I know what I did on my “off days” and I would love to see the similarities and differences between myself and the superstars (if any).
Despite them being everywhere, reality shows are still marketable. Have you ever wondered what the wife of a WWE superstar deals with? We have TV shows like Football Wives and Hockey Wives; why not a show about “Wrestling Wives”? It is not easy when your famous spouse is on the road so much. Sacrifices are made at home by family members as well and their story should be told.
