Breaking Ground Review

Blake Mitchamore posted a new blog on CSRWrestling.com reviewing Breaking Ground. Here’s a sample:

The HBO show Hard Knocks is one of my favorite shows on television. The inside access it provides on the NFL is unmatched. When the WWE announced Breaking Ground as its “Hard Knocks” style show I was immediately excited. The first episode has it’s good and it’s bad but overall I’m very excited about what this show can be.

The Good:

Variety- I loved how the show gave us NXT talents in all different aspects of their career. They showed us Baron Corbin and Bayley who are at the top of NXT. They showed us Apollo who has a ton of talent and a ton of ability but is just starting out at NXT. You even saw a cameo from Josh who won Tough Enough and is just beginning his NXT career. That’s perfect for a show like this. This show needs to show you a different side to people like Bayley and Baron Corbin. It also needs to make you care about the guys who are struggling and may never make it.

The Coaches- Just like on Hard Knocks you need to hear from the coaches and the decision makers. Hearing Jason Alberts and Sara Del Ray give their input on talent and what they look for was tremendous. We need to hear week to week what they look for and what they want from their talent or their “players” so we know what to expect. Hopefully they’ll show us a soft side that cares and show us that hard ass side we all expect from our coaches. I even loved seeing Norman Smiley in the car with Baron Corbin talking and asking him when he thinks he’ll head to the main roster. Let us in to the lives of the coaches show us they truly care about their performers and it’s just not a job.

Access- We’ve never been able to truly see what it takes to be a WWE superstar. Even though it was brief I loved seeing William Regal teach promo class with all the NXT Superstars. We got to go inside the performance center and see workouts and training see what these athletes go through on a daily basis. My favorite part of the behind the scenes access was at NXT Gainesville. I can’t ever remember seeing a pre-show meeting laying out the card or showing talent setting up the ring.
