It was reported earlier this week that top independent wrestling star Johnny Gargano and former Ring of Honor star Tommaso Ciampa competed in a tag team match at Thursday night’s WWE NXT tapings.

Evolve Wrestling, who Gargano is signed with (at least through this weekend), issued the following statement in regards to his contract status:
“Congrats to Johnny Gargano on his return to NXT last night. The upcoming weeks of NXT on Wednesday nights on the WWE Network should be very interesting. Gargano is still with WWN and he will return home to EVOLVE this weekend. We are very proud when we look at the NXT tapings and WWE TV every week and see many names from WWN including Gargano, Apollo Crews, Solomon Crowe, Neville, Kalisto, Luke Harperand Dean Ambrose among others.
