No Saving TNA
CSR’s own Justin LaBar’s latest column for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Friday looks at TNA Wrestling. The following is an excerpt:
A lot of good people work for TNA Wrestling, but one constant bad remains in Dixie Carter.
I don’t know the TNA president personally. I’ve always heard from those who worked with her that she has got a sweet side and she’s been good to their families. I’ve also heard she can’t get out of her way when it comes to the business.
The TNA brand is so damaged. It should be an entire chapter in marketing textbooks of what to avoid. That might be its greatest contribution since existing — showing everyone this is how not to do things and the deals not to make.
The company has teased so many big announcements. It has teased so many nights that are meant to be the start of a new era. At this point, those are all punchlines to all fans. I do mean all fans. The die-hard faithful from TNA is gone. It used to be when you would criticize TNA, the same 100 fans would come to the rescue. Those 100 have moved on.
The latest “pivotal” move for the company was leaving Spike TV and moving to Destination America. Now, Destination America is having buyer’s remorse. Even after Destination America gets to be involved in creative for TNA Wrestling and decision making, their biggest problem, despite not knowing the wrestling business, is dealing with Carter.
