Bad News Barrett defeated Neville in the finals of the 2015 King of the Ring tournament just moments ago, in a rematch from their Kickoff performance at this past weekend’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view.
Barrett is the 20th “King” in the 30-year history of the King of the Ring tournament, and the first since Sheamus won in 2010. In an interesting note, an American has not won the title since 2006, when WWE Hall of Famer Booker T won the tournament and donned his infamous “King Booker” character.
His path to the finals went through Dolph Ziggler on Monday Night Raw, then R-Truth in his first of two matches exclusively on the WWE Network, followed by the final match against Neville.
Neville, the longest reigning NXT Champion, went through Luke Harper on Monday Night Raw. He defeated Sheamus in the first of two matches on the WWE Network – thanks to an assist from Dolph Ziggler – but ultimately came up short in the final round to King Bad News Barrett.
