According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, "The Icon" Sting is nearing the end of his current contract with TNA Wrestling. He has been working limited dates for the company for the past year, re-signing short term contracts annually to give him freedom to step away should he choose to. Every year his contract expires around the start of the new year, which leads to annual speculation that he might show up in WWE; rumors that he will face The Undertaker at WrestleMania have been brewing for several years, and Sting has even acknowledged that he's talked to people inside WWE in the past, but the stars have not aligned.
While nothing is set in stone at this point, Sting is expected to re-sign a new one year contract with TNA Wrestling that would see him work limited appearances through the end of 2014. He is currently advertised to wrestle at TNA's on-the-road Genesis television special on January 16th, which he will do through an extension in his contract, unless a new deal is reached by that point.
Should the Stinger decide not to re-sign, TNA will suffer another blow in a long list of names that have parted ways with the company in the past six months, including Hulk Hogan, AJ Styles, Matt Morgan and Eric Bischoff, who has been quietly awaiting the expiration of his contract.
