ECW Originals Joey Styles, Tommy Dreamer, and “Sign Guy Dudley” Lou D’Angeli took to Twitter to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the very 1st Original ECW pay per view, “Barely Legal.”
Former WWE Smackdown and WWE-ECW lead writer David Lagana, who worked under ECW’s celebrated “cult leader” (owner and creative head) Paul Heyman, also tweeted about the momentous occasion.
ECW Barely Legal was the culmination of a huge fan uprising on the company’s behalf, getting the cable and pay per view distributors to let Heyman’s controversial, groundbreaking promotion on the air. At the time, the promotion was considered so wild and realistic, PPV distributors thought it was like UFC, or then-rival group Extreme Fighting.
Heyman didn’t tweet or blog about the anniversary, but that could either be because he plans on addressing his history in his upcoming book, “The Heyman Hustle,” scheduled to be released September 13th.
Here are some of the tweets from Styles, Dreamer, D’Angeli, and Lagana:
