Damian Priest addresses the botched kick-out at WWE Money in the Bank.
At WWE Money in the Bank, Damian Priest defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins. There was a brief issue during the match, as Priest did not kick out when he was supposed to during a pin attempt. Despite the error, the match continued, and Drew McIntyre still cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase as planned.
Speaking with Joseph Staszewski for The New York Post, Damian Priest discussed the botched kick-out. Staszewski noted that Priest said it was “personal”, and he did not want to get into anything medical. However, he commented on the idea that he “forgot” to kick out.
“The idea that I forgot to kick out, that not a thing,” Damian Priest said. “That’s not a thing. We don’t forget to kick out. Twenty years in, I’m pretty sure there is some kind of muscle memory there. So me forgetting was not the case. There was nothing outside that was supposed to happen. It was a matter of there was a situation, but I’m OK. Everybody’s fine, the story continues.”
Priest also noted that he was “kicking himself”, but he was not bothered by the criticism that he received because it was “not real.”
“It doesn’t affect anything,” Damian Priest said. “The show goes on and I think fans are very invested in everything that’s going on. The ones that matter knew the situation and nobody thought twice about it. It was, move on.”
Damian Priest will defend the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam.
