Daniel Garcia looks back on his memorable storyline in 2022, where he nearly turned on Chris Jericho.
Daniel Garcia battled between being a wrestler and a sports entertainer during Jericho’s rivalry with Bryan Danielson. During the feud, Garcia faced Danielson and earned his respect. In the end, despite some teases that Garcia would align with Danielson, he betrayed him and cemented his loyalty to Jericho.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Daniel Garcia recalled the storyline. He then noted that he felt complacent when he returned to the Jericho Appreciation Society. However, he decided to dive into his character.
“The storyline with Bryan happened where I was battling between being a pro wrestler and sports entertainer,” Daniel Garcia said. “I got put back into the Jericho group. A lot of people were mad about that. When I got put back into the group, I felt like I was kind of complacent. I felt like I kind of took a couple steps backward after the Bryan storyline.
“So that’s when I decided you know what, I’m going to go all the way with this. I’m gonna change my gear, I’m gonna put on these stupid leather pants, I’m gonna change my theme song, I’m gonna start dancing in the ring. I’m gonna start doing all these things. When something’s not working, I feel like you gotta start making some changes. That was a big deal for me, when I started to buy into my own character rather than reject it.”
