Indi Hartwell reflects on her run in WWE NXT, which recently reached a new high when she won the NXT Women’s Championship.
Hartwell rose to prominence in NXT as a member of The Way alongside Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, and Austin Theory. She also had an on-screen romance with Dexter Lumis that was a featured storyline on NXT. However, Theory moved to the main roster, Gargano and LeRae left the company, and Lumis got released, leaving Hartwell by herself. She then struggled to string together meaningful momentum until she won the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Stand & Deliver.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Hartwell was asked to describe whether she preferred the slow build in storytelling or the instant gratification.
“I believe in slow and steady because that’s what I’ve been through,” Hartwell said. “I thought to myself, if I get it all at once, where do I go from there? I’m still pretty young in this business. I’ve been wrestling for seven years, but that’s nothing compared to some people. I’m all about the slow and steady. I know it’s a marathon and not a sprint. A lot of my coaches tell me that. I just try to keep that in mind.”
Hartwell was also asked about potentially appearing on RAW or SmackDown, and she responded by saying, “Definitely. NXT Champions have appeared on Raw and SmackDown in the past, so I’m looking forward to doing that too.” (Transcription credit of Jeremy Lambert of Fightful)
Hartwell’s reign is just getting started, but she’s already facing a number of prospective contenders, including Tiffany Stratton and Cora Jade.
WrestleZone will have coverage of WWE NXT as it airs on Tuesday.
