Despite their initial rivalry, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre later squashed their differences to become one of NXT’s most formidable tag teams.
Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn stood victorious at NXT Stand & Deliver, dethroning Kiana James and Fallon Henley to become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. Now as the defending titleholders, Fyre and Dawn look to take over NXT together, but it wasn’t always that way.
Throughout late 2022 and early this year, the dynamic duo ended up fighting each other on several occasions. Eventually, Fyre and Dawn began merging their interests and formed a solid tag team. Speaking with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn explained why they work well as a unit.
“We’ve both been through a lot together, you can see that. We’ve been through a lot together,” Fyre said. “Whether it was in NXT UK or over here, we’ve been in the trenches together. We’ve been through it and since being put together, I feel like everything’s just really clicked. Everything’s working. We’re having a laugh and having fun while doing this. So, I would really like to just keep going and see how far we can go with it.”
Dawn echoed similar sentiments, referencing their previous work in NXT UK. “I feel like because we have came through a lot of wrestling together, we’ve known each other for years, we’ve done NXT UK together. We’re both two foreigners in America together. We have very similar paths and we’ve got very similar minds and similar upbringings, so, I just feel like everything’s very aligned.”
In terms of on-screen presentation, Fyre and Dawn often cast a more brooding, witchy vibe. When discussing how they could elevate their appearances even more, Fyre mentioned they had “loads of ideas,” but the duo wanted to maintain some sense of secrecy.
“We can’t tell you that because we’d be giving away all our ideas,” Fyre said. “We do have loads of ideas [though]. We’ve got a book now with a bunch of different, whether it’s promo ideas or whether it’s looks or things to go into in the future.”
“I feel like, as well, it’s just such a natural thing that it seems to be — we’re putting a lot of effort, but everything feels really easy and it feels like it falls in place,” Isla Dawn continued. “I don’t feel like we need to be like, ‘Oh, what do we do?’ It feels just like it’s quite a natural [thing]. We’ll chat about stuff and we’ll like, ‘yeah! Sick, I like it.'”
“There’s just too many ideas, so we write them all down,” Fyre said. “But then it’s like we’re never going to get a chance to go through and have all those points, but at least we’ve got them.”
Fyre and Dawn will defend their NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships against the former champions, Kiana James and Fallon Henley, on the April 11 episode of NXT.
