The city of Philadelphia and its rabid wrestling fanbase means a great deal to Alex Hammerstone and Major League Wrestling.
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone was a recent guest on The Ten Count with Steve Fall to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about Major League Wrestling heading back to Philadelphia for Blood & Thunder on January 7, Hammerstone said Philly has seemingly become the unofficial home for the company.
“Well, you know MLW is a traveling brand. We hit a lot of major cities, and we’re continuing to move into new markets every year. That being said, Philly has become kind of like an unofficial home of MLW,” Alex Hammerstone said. “Where we are frequenting that spot, and as you alluded to, there’s some good reasons to it.
“And a big one is those fans, the crazy fans, they bring a certain level of energy, they keep it high, and they can be a bit finicky to work with because they can turn on you just like that man. And it’s hard to win over the Philly crowd. But when you do, and you haven’t been your corner, there’s nothing quite like it too.”
Alex Hammerstone went on to reveal he had some of the biggest moments of his Major League Wrestling career in Philadelphia, including his debut with the company as well as winning the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. Hammerstone spoke about the process of winning the fans in Philly over throughout the course of his time with the company.
“I’ve been lucky I feel like debuting at Philly. I always say like Philly is a little bit special to me because I debuted with MLW in Philly, and the crowd ate me alive,” Alex Hammerstone said. “A year later, I believe was when I had my match with T Hawk, which was kind of a breakout match for me with MLW where the crowd was still against me, but as the match was going. We split them. And then a couple of years after that is when I ended up winning the MLW World Championship in Philly, and the crowd goes nuts for me. So I’ve had to work to prove myself to them. So now it’s just about, like you said, keeping them in my corner.”
