Austin Theory is confident that the shift in his character in WWE will help take him to the next level.
Since Theory arrived on WWE RAW in 2021, he had been an arrogant heel that often took selfies. Initially, he enjoyed plenty of success, as he quickly won the WWE United States Championship and later captured the Money in the Bank briefcase. But his momentum stalled throughout the summer, and this cold streak when he unsuccessfully cashed in the briefcase on Seth Rollins on the November 7 episode of WWE RAW. Following this setback, Theory showcased a new mean streak and reestablished himself as a prominent player on the red brand. He then beat Rollins and Bobby Lashley to win the WWE United States Championship at WWE Survivor Series.
In an interview with Rob Armstrong of BT Sport, Theory discussed the progression of his character and noted that it has been a quick switch, but the change has given him a chance to get to the next level. He stated that he believes he’s on the right track in his quest to become a world champion.
“I’d say it’s as wild as it has been for everybody else,” Theory said. “You go from being so used to something to a quick switch, and pretty much that quick switch changes everything, but for a good way, I feel like. For me, it was a chance for Austin Theory to evolve and go to that next level, and I can’t take selfies forever and be a goofball. So it’s like finding that next chapter and what’s gonna get me to becoming a world champion, and I think we’re on the right track.”
Theory also discussed his title win at WWE Survivor Series and admitted that being a two-time WWE United States Champion blew his mind. He emphasized his belief that the victory helped move him up the ladder as he defeated two established stars in Rollins and Lashley.
“It was a lot of emotions, I’d say, being out there, all the fans in Boston, Massachusetts, going crazy and being in the ring with Seth “Freakin” Rollins, being in there with Bobby Lashley, two names that are so well-known in the WWE and me, on the come-up of going to be one of those top guys,” Theory said. “This right here just puts that next stamp on that for me and moves me up that ladder. It just kind of blows my mind that I’m a two-time United States Champion. It’s awesome.”
