Former WWE Superstar Al Snow wants you to know that Ohio Valley Wrestling has been around a lot longer than you might think.
Al Snow recently spoke with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the tremendous run of television that Ohio Valley Wrestling has produced over the last couple of decades, Snow noted that they are one episode ahead of SmackDown.
Monday Night RAW is often touted as the longest-running weekly episodic program in the United States with more than 1,500 original episodes to date. Snow noted that OVW would have surpassed WWE’s flagship show if OVW owner Danny Davis had been numbering his shows from the beginning.
“We’re one week ahead of Smackdown, one episode ahead of Smackdown,” Al Snow revealed. “If Danny Davis the originator of OVW, if he would had counted from the moment of its inception, we would have surpassed RAW at this point. But Danny didn’t start counting the episodes, numbering the episodes until WWE got involved back in the 90s. That was when they required him to start to count the episodes and actually number them. But since then, we’ve gotten to a library of over 1,200 episodes so pretty proud of that. Pretty proud.”
Asked if anyone had ever approached them to buy their tape library, Snow revealed that WWE had purchased the first 347 episodes as they were WWE’s developmental territory at the time.
“We own from about 348 on,” Al Snow said. From one to 348 which was during the WWE years. They bought that when Danny owned the company, but from 348 on I think it is 348-49. We own that to the present day to 1,200. That would have probably been 2006 ish. I don’t know. Somewhere in there.”
