A new AEW World Champion will be crowned at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.
The September 14 episode of AEW Dynamite featured two semi-finals matches in the Tournament of Champions. In the first bout, Jon Moxley took on Sammy Guevara. Tay Melo and Anna JAS interfered on behalf of Guevara, with Melo hitting Moxley with a low-blow. Despite that, Moxley still was victorious after hitting Guevara with Death Rider.

In the second bout, Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson clashed in a rematch from All Out. Danielson’s left foot was targeted for a majority of the match, but that wasn’t enough to stop the American Dragon. Danielson managed to tap out Jericho to secure his spot in the tournament finals.
