AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa is excited about her match with Miyu Yamashita.
The latter defeated the champion at TJPW Summer Sun Princess to earn a title shot on the July 27 episode of AEW Dynamite.
In an interview with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy, Rosa praised Yamashita and her distinct in-ring style.
“She’s one of the most talented women I’ve been in the ring with,” Rosa said. “She’s magic, she’s just this firecracker. You can see her being quiet and like, cute, but there’s nothing cute and quiet about her.
“She’s very methodical and I love her style. It’s different, it’s very in your face. She’s very good, very technical, and I thoroughly enjoy wrestling her and this one – I know because of what we did last time – is going to be excellent.”
Wednesday’s title match will be another showcase of AEW’s working relationship with Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling (TJPW). Rosa noted that this connection is beneficial because it allows AEW to tap into a vastly different style.
“[The TJPW relationship] is important for the women’s division because they bring another style of wrestling that you don’t necessarily get here,” Rosa said.
“The psychology is different, the way they do things is different,” said Rosa. “For me, selfishly, it’s really good because I love working Joshi style. That’s how I was brought up pretty much, with the Joshi style, so I’m pretty acquainted with it. So I enjoy it and I hope that we continue with this relationship in the future.”
“La Mera Mera” also discussed how she’s open to facing anyone, including Taya Valkyrie, who recently called her out at AAA’s Triplemania XXX event.
“Everyone wants a piece of me,” Rosa said. “It’s just nice to see I’m on everybody’s mouth, everybody, Taya, people from AEW, people from other places. I’m on dirt sheets, regardless of if they think I say stupid stuff, I’m on everyone’s mouth.
“So she’s gonna get it if she wants it. If anybody wants it and they’re calling me out and I feel that it’s worth my time, then yes, you can get it.”
