Homicide Wants To Make The NWA Junior Heavyweight Title Stand Out, Feels A Responsibility To Do So

Homicide has a unique task at hand as NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Homicide won the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship at the 2022 Crockett Cup by defeating Austin Aries, Colby Corino, and Darius Lockhart in a four-way match to win the vacant title. During an appearance on the Battleground PodcastHomicide expanded on what winning the title meant to him, noting how he loves knowing he’s part of history, but the weight of the moment didn’t hit him right away.

“When I won the title, it didn’t hit me. Mostly it did not hit me. But when I went behind the scenes and I did this promo, that’s when it hit me. I cried like a little punk, man. It was one of those, I can’t believe I’m part of history, you know. Everybody that knows me [knows] I’m big on history, like I’m an undercover nerd when it comes to history. The best part is when I went back home to Brooklyn and even Philadelphia because that’s where I am right now, and people are just happy that I brought the title back to the community,” he explained. “They’re like wow this guy was a nobody and now he’s somebody. I was becoming one of those negatives and now I’m making positive moves, especially for this belt.”

Homicide then spoke about what he wants to do with the title, noting that he wants it to stand on its own and apart from other titles being defended in major promotions.

“Everybody’s saying that the NWA Junior [Heavyweight Title] is maybe the secondary or maybe the last, they represent all cruiserweights. Well my responsibility for this belt is make a change for this belt. Everybody thinking about Lucha Libre style or a cruiserweight style. I’m making it hard-hitting. I’m gonna make it different from all these divisions, like the X-Division or the Cruiserweight, WW-whatever they’re calling themselves. I just want this belt to be different than everybody, every promotion that you see. You see the NWA Junior belt, okay, this is something different and I like it; just like the National Television, the Television Champion, I’m gonna make this belt different. I want this belt to be number one. I’m gonna try my best to make this belt number one.”

Homicide also spoke about how he sees himself as the “Hood Harley Race” and wants to be a traveling champion. Read more about his plans to defend his title at this link.
