Tom Hannifan is just getting started.
IMPACT Wrestling has a new play-by-play announcer in former WWE announcer Tom Hannifan, fka Tom Phillips. Renee Paquette made the announcement on Saturday afternoon, posting the following:
Huge news!! @TomHannifan joins @IMPACTWRESTLING as their newest play by play announcer at Hard To Kill! What a pick up for them! I have Tom’s first interview this coming Tuesday on The Sessions!! @TheVolumeSports
Hannifan posted the following statement after the news broke:
I was just getting warmed up
Tom Hannifan fills a role for IMPACT that was previously held by Matt Striker, who recently departed the company. Hannifan worked for WWE from 2012 until May 2021 as an on-air commentator for WWE RAW, SmackDown, NXT, Main Event and 205 Live. Phillips had also been working behind the scenes as Senior Manager of On-Air Talent and oversaw special projects for WWE’s programming on Peacock prior to being released by the company.
After he left WWE, Hannifan started a Penn State football-themed show called Paydirt: A Penn State Football Podcast in August with former NFL, XFL, and Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin.
