Seth Rollins Wanted To ‘Make It Fun To Hate’ His Character, Compares It To Joker Having A Mid-Life Crisis

Wait ’til they get a load of Seth Rollins.

During a recent interview with Josh Martinez on Z100, Seth Rollins was asked about his new character appearing to be someone that takes great pride in having a sense of fashion. Rollins says it was all about having fun, noting that there are some historical wrestling figures that pulled off “peacocking” rather well.

“Man honestly it was just about doing something different and doing something fun. You know it all started when we in the middle of the pandemic and we were doing shows in front of no crowds and we were doing the ThunderDome stuff. And a lot of the content that I was seeing on our TV and basically in wrestling and entertainment, it was real dark and it was just kind of, it felt laborious to watch it and to sit through it because it just wasn’t a lot of fun. And so thinking back to the characters of my youth and the guys like ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, Gorgeous George further back. You know, guys like that, they were just peacocking all the time. I just kinda wanted to find my own version of that and make it fun to hate somebody. So I just thought it’d be totally different than what I’ve ever done. And so here we are.”

Asked how he’d describe the character, Rollins put it in terms that comic book fans could understand.

“It’s as like this crazy, like if The Joker were a narcissist going through a midlife crisis, I guess that’s beat way to really put it. I don’t really know any other to do it. But yeah it’s a lot. There’s a lot happening but the cool thing about the character is it can kinda go any which way. There’s a lot of unpredictability with it. And I think that’s fun. You can have matches like a Hell in a Cell Match with Edge, but you can also have television segments where I just laugh with my best friend Bayley for five minutes. You know, so I just think there’s not a lot of characters on our television program that can do all these different things. So that’s kind of just my approach to where I’m at right now.”
