WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura will face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the promotion’s Tribute to the Troops show on November 14, and he’s hoping this bout isn’t a one-off.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Nakamura stated that he doesn’t just want to face Reigns again after Sunday; he needs to.
“This is a match for a special show,” said Nakamura. “After this, we need a full story between myself and Roman Reigns.”
The reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion went on to praise Reigns as one of the best wrestlers on the planet, but he’s determined to prove that he’s even better than “The Head of the Table.”
“Roman has a real responsibility for WWE and professional wrestling, and a responsibility to his bloodline to be the best professional wrestler,” said Nakamura. “He is one of the best in the world. But I need to get the WWE world title. I need to prove I’m better than him.
“Roman has that fighting spirit. I want to wrestle him more, and that includes Rick Boogs vs. Paul Heyman.”
Boogs and Heyman are both expected to be at ringside for the match on Sunday, and the pairing of Nakamura, Boogs and SmackDown broadcaster Pat McAfee has been a memorable one. The trio often dances together to entertain the fans, and this objective is always Nakamura’s mission, along with performing at a high level in the ring.
“I am ‘The King of Professional Wrestlers,'” said Nakamura.“Like my entrance, I want to give the audience something they will never forget. I also want to give the best work in the ring. People will see that against Roman Reigns, and they will see it every time I am in the ring.”
