Trevor Murdoch put his career on the line when he challenged Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at NWA 73. On the other hand, Aldis hoped to continue his reign as the champion, which stood at an impressive 1044 days on Sunday. Needless to say, the stakes couldn’t be higher on Sunday night, and in the end, Murdoch emerged victorious.
Murdoch, a Missouri native, had the St. Louis crowd behind him in a bout that began as a brawl around the arena. During this fight, Aldis got into a confrontation with NWA President Billy Corgan, and they had to be separated. The wild match featured a referee bump, a low blow, and more chaos throughout the bout.

While the referee was down, Aldis hit Murdoch with an elbow drop that sent him crashing through a table. Later in the bout, Aldis nearly made Murdoch tap out, but the challenger kept fighting. In the end, he pinned Aldis with a diving bulldog.

After the bout, Murdoch celebrated the win with his family and Ric Flair. In an interview, he promised to be the best champion he could by doing his best to represent the title and the brand the way they deserve.
Murdoch is a former NWA National Champion, and during his run with WWE, he won the World Tag Team Championship three times with Lance Cade. He had retired from wrestling in 2018, but he returned to the ring for the NWA in 2019.
