Tonight’s NXT saw two big matches occur that helped set the stage for NXT TakeOver’s No. 1 Contender’s ladder match. Unfortunately, Xia Li – who was originally set to take on Aliyah – was unable to perform, as she was attacked prior to her match against Aliyah. Despite Aliyah thinking she was one step closer to the NXT Women’s Championship, Io Shirai was announced as the replacement, and she promptly defeated Aliyah.
Later in the night, Candice LeRae took on Kayden Carter, and was able to defeat her to earn a spot in the ladder match. With LeRae and Shirai both advancing to the ladder match, that makes the competition that much tougher when the No. 1 Contender’s ladder match occurs.
