“The Stroke Daddy” Ricky Starks will be competing for the NWA National Title in a triple threat bout between himself, Aron Stevens & champion Colt Cabana at tomorrow’s pay-per-view, Into The Fire. Starks was gracious enough with his time to be interviewed by Wrestlezone’s Dominic DeAngelo and the two talked about the unique atmosphere that the studio setting presents for NWA Powerrr and how it showcases a one-of-a-kind wrestling product and according to Starks, there was only one minor adjustment he has to worry about.
“The energy is constantly up so you didn’t have to worry about like going up to a dead crowd—God bless the crowd too cause I swear we were there for a very long time too on a school night on a work night, so major props to those fans for being as high energy as they were—I like the intimate setting of it. I like how things look on TV, but just beyond that, really the only negative thing about it was just how awkward it was to just walk out to no music and you just go, ‘Oh, okay, here I am.'”
Although he’s originally from New Orleans, Starks now calls Austin, Texas home and had a lot to say when it comes to the amazing talent that stems from The Lone Star State from an array of promotions that includes Inspire and ACW.
“In Texas, the places that I actually worked for are like places like Inspire, ACW, I’ve wrestled for Wrestle Circus there. I wrestled for a few different places outside of Austin as well which is where I live at and so the people that you meet, the different characters, man, they’re so unique in a way that you’re like, ‘How did you even come up with the things that you do in the ring?’ They’re very smart, man. I think it’s just a matter of getting these people an opportunity for everything else to see their genius before it’s a matter of time to get picked up by a big company.

Starks has seen first-hand the abilities and talents of his colleagues in Texas and knows that the worldwide wrestling fanbase is in store for some stand-out personas once people take notice.
“I got a good friend, Gino [Medina] who got picked up by MLW and he’s awesome. Things like that, I think we should give Texas a little bit more of a chance with what they already have cause they only know of Wrestle Circus, right? I think Wrestle Circus did a huge disservice by not highlighting them enough and you can give claim to like Sammy Guevara or whatnot, but honestly, Sammy was doing big things on his own with the vlog so I wouldn’t give credit of someone building him up other than Sammy himself. But yeah, I wish that that would have went a little bit differently as far as Wrestle Circus goes, but for the most part, there’s some really good talented people here that a lot of people don’t know about.”
