At WWE Survivor Series, WWE United States Champion AJ Styles faced NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong and WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a triple threat match. All three competitors gave it their all but Strong emerged victorious after he pinned Nakamura.

Strong took control early on and but Nakamura isolated Styles. Strong floored Nakamura with a gutbuster. The Messiah of the Backbreaker lived up to his name and dished out punishment to both his opponents. Styles tried hitting Nakamura with the Styles Clash but Strong broke it up. A powerbomb on the Phenomenal One got Strong a near fall. Sami Zayn attacked Styles but Strong nearly pinned Nakamura after a knee to the face. Nakamura countered the Styles Clash but Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm. But Strong tossed him out of the ring and pinned Nakamura to win the match.
