AJ Styles confirmed he’s currently dealing with a shoulder injury, but maintains it’s nothing serious.
Styles commented on his status during a live stream on his Mixer account, saying he had an ongoing issue with his (acromioclavicular) AC joint. He said it was originally believed to be a fracture, but that might not be the case anymore and all he might need is a shot to reduce the swelling. Styles said he’s hopeful he’s not sidelined for very long, and that this is just wear and tear on his body and nothing major. Styles added that WWE is making sure the injury is being dealt with properly and that he wants to be back, and wants to “earn my money.”
Styles was initially scheduled to compete in a Fatal 4 Way match, where the winner would face Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at WWE Super Showdown. Shortly before the broadcast, Styles was pulled from the match and WWE said he was out with a back injury, with the storyline explanation being that he was injured at WWE’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view.
Styles was replaced in the match by Baron Corbin, who later attacked him in a backstage segment. WWE posted a video where Styles was trying to explain his situation before Corbin ran in an attacked him. Corbin went on to win the Fatal 4 Way, defeating The Miz, Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley and will now challenge Seth Rollins at WWE Super Showdown next month.
