2006 was the year where WWE fully started to build the company around John Cena. By the time WrestleMania 22 had come along, Cena had been a full year into his tenure as WWE’s franchise player. Naturally, he was making them a lot of money and his stock was rising despite the fact that he had already become somewhat of a “polarizing” figure, as WWE always calls him.
