Collector’s Corner: WWE Ultimate Edition Series 1 – Ronda Rousey & Ultimate Warrior (Photos)

If you haven’t heard, there’s a new style of WWE action figure on the market thanks to Mattel and it’s none other than the new WWE Ultimate Edition Series 1, featuring Ronda Rousey and Ultimate Warrior! These feature extra articulation, swappable heads, hands and limbs as well as awesome accessories! The Packaging

The packaging on these is unique compared to those from the other series. Some people really like it while others do not. I personally like the clean look but the box is even larger than an Elite box. It has a nice, clean, slick look to it at least with a real image and action figure image of them on the back followed by statistics as usual. The sides feature a real image of the featured superstar while the opposite side just has their name. To open the box be careful as you’ll want to cut every piece of tape so it opens nicely if you plan to keep the packaging.

Inside the figure floats in a plastic bubble, as usual. My only gripe with the Warrior one is I think a window on top of the box would brighten up his box a bit when being displayed but other than that I see no issue with the packaging honestly. The bulkiness of it may turn off some collectors as well as the size difference but the figures themselves are the same scale at least as regular Elite figures.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda is my favorite of the two in this first wave. This is her first figure in in-ring attire and she comes with 3 swappable heads. One is happy with a ponytail, one is made with a ponytail while the third is her hair down with a big grin on her face, similar to her Elite 65 figure. She also comes with swappable hands, one pair is open while the other is fists. Not to mention she comes with her jacket where you can pop off her arms and replace them with sleeved arms as well as her mini-kilt.

Overall, I love the articulation as you can pose the figures even more now. She has a ball-jointed chest joint as well as double-jointed elbows, double-jointed knees, wrist joints and toe joints. Being able to swap attires and facial expressions is great as well. Her Elite 65 head was very difficult to swap with so I’m not sure if it’s made slightly different than the newer heads that cooperate better with this ability. Not to mention putting hands into the jacket sleeves were extremely difficult so be care as the pegs on her hands are very thin and could probably snap easily. I’d recommend using a hair dryer or boiling water to soften the parts before trying to swap just to be safe. But besides those little gripes I love it. It’s easily her best figure to date and I’m curious if we will be getting anymore of her moving forward, but I highly recommend this one.

Ultimate Warrior

Warrior looks great, but many are annoyed to see yet another Ultimate Warrior action figure as Mattel makes a ton of him. Regardless, this one looks nice as it is based on his Halloween Havoc attire and even comes with a super detailed cloth jacket. He also features swappable heads  (one with paint and the other paint rubbed off), a ball-jointed chest joint, swappable hands, double-jointed elbows, double-jointed knees and toe joints.

Overall, I’d say the figure is pretty nice. He has a ton of detail on his outfit, which is really cool and of course the jacket is super impressive. His tassels are actually removable in that they’re on a swivel joint. I’m not sure if this is to help you put them in his jacket sleeves by removing them or simply the only way in production to create such. Be careful as they kind of fall off easily on his arms and knee pads. Besides that it’s a great figure. I actually like the ball jointed chest as it gives him much more movement and of course the double-jointed elbows and knees allow for even more posing, which is great for photography. The head scan isn’t my favorite but I love they have a post-match head to swap it with. Since we got a Halloween Havoc Warrior lets hope we can get an Ultimate Hollywood Hogan to go with him! One can hope, right?

Overall

As a figure photographer and post stop-motion animator, these figures are wonderful. The added articulation is really nice and make for some great posability. The price point on these is probably going to turn away some collectors unless you’re a diehard collector like me. They’re not cheap, but you get a lot for your money. There is a Shinsuke Nakamura and Bret Hart coming soon, which you can currently pre-order on Ringside Collectibles, and next year there’s supposed to be eight or so coming out. If you love to pose your figures these are the right ones to buy. You may have to re-buy your whole collection now if you prefer this style, but I think it will totally be worth it in the end.
