The Undertaker WrestleMania 35 Opponent | Five Matches That Make Sense

The following editorial was written by Tyler Treese and does not reflect the opinions of WrestleZone as a whole. We encourage you all to discuss Tyler’s thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of this post and follow him on Twitter @tylertreese.

Every year at WrestleMania, one of the key attractions is a match starring The Undertaker. However, this year it’s more uncertain than ever before if he’ll compete. Will we see the most iconic WrestleMania performer at the grandaddy of them all again?

I’m not so sure, but here are five potential The Undertaker WrestleMania 35 opponents that make sense.

Nobody

When it comes to who I’d like to see The Undertaker face off against it’d be nobody at all. As a fan, I’d like to see the iconic wrestler finally hang up his boots once and for all. However, it’s not my place to tell a legend when to retire and if he continues to wrestle then more power to him.

Finn Balor

The Undertaker is known for his supernatural characteristics and his feud with his “demon” brother Kane for a number of years. While Kane is also pretty much retired at this point, there’s a new wrestler that wears that moniker proudly and blends it with supernatural elements. I’m talking about Finn Balor. A match titled “The Demon vs. The Dead Man” makes a lot of sense, and it would be quite the visual. However, Balor is a lot older than most people think (38) and it’s not like a young star would be getting a rub in this scenario.

Kurt Angle

If we’re putting The Undertaker in there with another veteran then it might make sense to do a double retirement match with his Attitude Era compatriot, Kurt Angle. Both men had some memorable matches over the years such as Survivor Series 2000 and some great triple threat bouts. The history is there for it to make sense but putting two banged up performers might not lead to the greatest match.

John Cena

If there’s any storyline that seems unresolved it is the embarrassing loss that John Cena suffered to The Undertaker last year.  The quick squash match seemed more like it was setting something up, such as a bigger rematch in the future, but there has been no hint at such a match so far. Cena is talented enough to make Undertaker look good in a bout, and this would make a good send-off.

Aleister Black

Aleister Black is 33, but that’s still five years younger than Balor. A huge WrestleMania debut against The Undertaker could help him really get over as the next “dark” character in WWE. Just thinking about the two entrances gets me excited, and this could be a real passing of the torch moment.
