Everyone loves some good old fashioned nostalgia from time to time, and nobody understands how to utilise that more than WWE. It’s a technique that they use more often than most, with several of the biggest and best names still lingering around on WWE television. We’ve seen it play out as recently as last night, with DX & the Brothers of Destruction throwing down in front of a lively Seattle crowd.
In terms of this piece, however, we want to take a look at the upcoming reunion of the popular Evolution faction on SmackDown 1000. It’s no secret that Triple H, Batista, Ric Flair & Randy Orton combined to create one of the best groups in WWE history, and they were even able to reunite as recently as 2014 for one final run. Alas, something about this move doesn’t feel right to a lot of fans.

The main reason for this is because it’s happening on the 1000th episode of SmackDown, which is an event that’s intended to celebrate everything that we’ve loved about the blue brand from throughout the years. Batista certainly represents a great period in SD’s history given his run as World Heavyweight Champion, but from that point on the history books get a little dry. Orton has spent the majority of his last few years on SmackDown without doing all too much of note, whereas Triple H and Ric Flair were almost exclusively Raw guys.
We understand that they want to throw as much against the wall in order to see what sticks with such a momentous show, but we’re holding out to see whether or not this winds up being a good idea – or whether it’s just going to come across as another chance to praise the beloved group.
At the end of the day, in reference to the title, it feels as if it doesn’t really fall into either category. WWE clearly have a plan behind putting this move together, but at the same time, it doesn’t feel like an elaborate one. The fans will likely eat it up because it’s going to be a great moment, but the small details matter sometimes and we’re hoping that WWE makes the most of this opportunity. Will they address Batista quitting back in 2014? Hopefully. Will Orton forget about his current persona for one night to fall back into the Evolution way of thinking? Hopefully not.
